Post Lt1 optispark delete
Well I just came from the professors place and found out some good news for the lt1 crowd. They are testing a new system that eliminates the dreaded optispark and replaces it with a coilpack style like the Ls1. They will be running an article in next months Hot Rod magazine on it! If you dont know the professor he builds quality stuff and the prices are great. Check out the prices on some of his stuff. Here is his website here; http://www.efisource.com/

There was a product created awhile ago called the Electromotive, that deleted the entire opti as well. It ran on the cam position sensor and I think something else. Im not to familiar with the set up, but it only worked OK on the 93 lt-1's. All the other years it would make the fuel injectors fire at the wrong time. Engineer on Camaroz28.com got into great detail of the issues. But thats awsome that this new system actually works well. I can't wait to see the product.

The original Electromotive used the low res side of the opti with a circuit that would allow them to use remote coil packs. All of the other functions were still in the stock ECM, buy I think you could adjust timing? Been years since i played with one. Because there was no provision for a crank sensor, you could fire 180 out. The second generation used the Electromotive techII ECM ( this is the unit I have ) they adapted a SBC trigger wheel for the crank sensor. There were allot of issues with the manufacturing of the Opti translator, so it was discontinued after less then 100 were made. By using a SBC cam sensor ( bolts into the location a standard SBC dist. goes), you can use the system and effectively eliminate the entire Opti. The one downfall is that the system is batch fire.

The system Mike is talking about appears very simple to install and use. From what I've read, you use an early LS1 ECM, and the kit will have a part to replace the entire Opti with a cam sensor that simple bolts in where the opti was and a crank sensor ( I don't think they are reusing the 96-97 crank sensor?, then an adapter to make the LT1 harness fit the LS1 ECM, and coil packs. From there programming would be simple using something like HP tuner. You get easy tuning, RPM tables above what the LT1 ECM without having to redo the entire engine compartment.
