Looks like Dart is really thinking hard about this. Asking for everyone's opinions. Would be awsome to see an aftermarket block and a set of killer heads! LSx what? :stirpot :lt1

Why not just buy an LS block if they're that much better?

LT and LS platforms are not interchangeable...I would have to rewire the entire engine compartment and get a LS K-member. This Dark block will be the first step to brining the LT platform to the next level.

I heard that block comes with a 6 pack of OPTI's, and then when you go through all them you have to call DART and they will send you a $20 off coupon for any additional ones you need.

:lmao4 silly :lt1 boys

Funny man...remember the opti isnt THAT bad. It does get the job done, but if I were going that route it would get the new opti delete w/ coil to plug and ls1 pcm. :grin

kind of like a ford with a SB Chevy in it, it's the only way to make it go fast.

LT1 wishing it was an LS1.

You Ford boys have been saying that since the damn 60's.

And it looks like Ford brought a knife to a gunfight in the $30-40k war again.. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/uptospe ... e-off.html

Yes, the blown cobras are fast... Too bad they can't turn.

I did not research this but I would have to say minus the mid to late 70's the mustang did pretty well concidering inline performance compared to the bigger C.I. vehciles. As for turning, I would put a stock 03-04 Cobra up against an stock F-body anyday. The 03-04 Cobra does not fall into the normal mustang handling class. It's a few step above. :cheers

I think we could have had weight on our side to help with the smaller C.I.

mid-late 70's was a dark, dark time for automobiles as a whole...

Just giving ya a rash of shit mainly...

Why does everyone always compare an f-body to a Cobra? I would think f-body to GT is the fair comparison $$ wise...

Unfortunately, if it's like the LS1 block, it'll be $5K just for a bare block. Priced too high for the average Joe.

Harold, I love the sig. :) :thumb

The cobra is a great car built by SVO... They touched more than the drive train in them. It really is a nice car.

** Now ban me for being a closet Cobra fan **

P.S. Harold what happened to the sig? I thought it was cool... though kinda creepy that you had a picture of Rich in your sig.

So wait, you think changing the block will give you a chance against us LSX boys? Better off stuffing a Big Block under the hood, then you're talking! Hell I shoulda done that, it would have been cheaper. Or better yet stuff and H/C Ford 302 under the hood, that will make we quake a little :)

What "could" make the big CI LT1 based block popular is pricing. They are talking about a complete block that only need final honing for around $1,800. Not far off from what you would pay to have a stock block set up as a stroker. Plus the block will be a hybrid of a standard SBC with provisions for the reverse cooling. So you won't have the thin walls, block shift or cap walk you face with an stock block.

The issue of cam/crank clearance will also be eliminated. So allot off the shelf part like a main girdle, HD timing set and sump type oiling could be used and you wouldn't need to pay the over inflated price because it's LT1 specific. Add a good set of heads and intake and you have an engine with allot of potential without the trouble of making a big block fit. Pre LS1, Canfield made some serious heads for the LT1, problem was no one was really using them except the real hardcore racers. I know Baxter ran them, and I 99% sure Madman was running them as well. When George switched for Lingenfelter race LT4 heads to the out of the box canfields he picked up 60 HP, then he sent them out for work!

Of course if you are going this route, you would probably want to dump the stock ECM. hell, throw a carb and front dizzy on it!

Far as Ford, I still don't understand why they got didn't keep progressing with the 5.0 motor. That had to be Ford's best motor of the 70-80s. Look at what the Pro 5.0 guys did with those things, and how well they responded to simple mods. Guys would throw on the FMS parts and a 100 shot and they ran forever and simply beat up on the GM's TPI cars of the same era! Then you had Saleen and McLeran Mustangs as well. But then again, look at how many Mustangs sold compared to F-bodies in the late 90's??
