Post 2nd and 4th gear will not grab
Hey guys 1st 3rd 5th reverse engage properly 2nd and 4th no 6th feels the same but still engages. Shift linkage issue? Just started this morning for first time so haven't had time to look at it yet.

Thanks in advance

I almost want to say u bent a fork but you have two diff gears sets not engaging, what shifter do you have? I would start there first, my pro 5.0 that was on my car had Teflon for the bearing side of the ball and was completely destroyed and acted up all the time, the b&m is designed the same way, the hurst is the only one that has bronze in it. It could be a detent rod failure or even the gate plate has something wrong with it, the Teflon cup in the Linkage assembly could shot too, could be synchronizes check your shifter stop too might have come loose and worked its way in and not allowing you full throw.

My first thought was syncro's but hoping it's just a shifter/linkage issue.

It's a Hurst shifter. only reason I'm thinking it has to be linkage related is It has shown no sign at all there is an issue. Drove fine over weekend even drove fine this morning until one down shift to 4th on the highway the 2nd and 4th were gone. Is there adjustment on the shift linkage? I'm thinking that or the stop maybe. due to the bad gears being at the bottom of the throw anyway. I'll have to tear it apart this weekend

Thanks for the replys

There is no adjustment that I'm aware of for the linkage, if it's a hurst shifter check your stops at the back of the shifter make sure u r getting full throw. If those stops are not set correct you can damage the Teflon pads on the shift forks. I am wondering if your pads are not worn out or smashed like mine were. Usually if a syncro goes it will want to grind, but not always the case. were you clubbing on it when it started doing this? I have bronze shifter pads in my trans now and I would not recommend them unless you r really beating on it. They do wear if it's just a daily/weekend toy keep the plastic/Teflon pads. My trans would not engage gears after a serious beating and I missed 3rd gear I ended up knocking synchro teath off the gear, and messed up the slider hub, if I remember correctly you want .030 between the stop and the shifter when in gear,

hahaha considering my wife says if I break it seriously it goes I'm actually pretty gentle on the car just cruisin on the highway went to downshift on an off ramp and there was nothing. I really want to believe that it's not the syncros I cannot pull the shifter back any farther than where it stops and it won't engage the gear so hopefully just stop. thanks for the advice I will check it this weekend do you just use a shim for the stop offset if I need to replace the pads are they easy to change and can I find them anywhere

Yeah, sounds like the lower stop is too far forward

If the shift pads are bad the trans needs to come completely apart, and anyone dealing with these trans will have them, you will need 6 total there are 2 on each shift fork. The reverse is a diff size and 90% of the time will not need replaced. If you find it needs rebuilt lmk I can give you a hand, they r not hard at all to rebuild, just time consuming.
