Now that that's out of the way, whats the best way to clean it, and the underside of the car? simple green and a bunch of rags? i'll be putting a new gasket on the diff cover and replacing the pinion seal when i change whats left of the fluid.

Any good industrial degreaser should do the trick. Simple Green is fine and I'm personally on an Adam's APC kick right now.

Get the heavy stuff with something like simple green, then I usually grab a wax/grease remover to hit the fine stuff, and then I always paint!

another vote for Eastwood extreme chassis black. covers great and holds up to harsh fluids like brake fluid.

They also make a product called chassis kleen, that does a spectacular job at removing grease and dirt, but use it in a well ventilated area if you get it.
