Post Anyone ever replaced rods and pistons from the bottom?
Just got to thinking if I wanted to replace rods and pistons with forged ones or if I wanted to go 383 can I do it without yanking the heads? I ask because my friend has a very low mileage c5 that's pro charged and he wants a bit more assurance he won't wreck that mint block. We can do it without taking apart the top right?

I'd rather pull the heads than drop the crank. :banghead

Alright, before everyone starts to think that I've gone off the deep end, this was a question asked on LS1Tech. I thought it was amusing and wanted to see what kind of responses I got here. Here's the thread:

I was concerned what I was doing/thinking since you ACTUALLY have a friend with a low mileage c5 that is pro charged.
Thank goodness it wasn't me... I know I have out of it recently but I didn't think it was that bad I completely lost a conversation with you... :shakehead

Cannot be done without some wild tools. You need to be able to compress the rings to start them in the bore. Plus i dont think there is enough room to get the piston and rod through between the pan rails. Plus trying to line all the rods up on the crank while in the car is asking for trouble your chance of marking the crank is greatly increased. Plus your only talking about $100. In gaskets. Not worth the risk.
