Post Performabuilt
I am looking for a good trans shop to do business with and read some good and bad things about Performabuilt. Have any of you dealt with them and how was your experience?

I am looking for a built 4L60E and possibly a stall.

When I was in the market for a trans rebuild, I was steered away from them. They have alot of mixed reviews as well. I went with Frank @ CPT and his Pro Race 4l60e, and that trans was awsome. You might want to give Steve @ Vics Transmission in Elysburg a call. If I was building an Auto, he would be the one to do mine. He is on motorcity here as well, but rarely posts. His SN is Steve. As for the stall, I would recommend Yank 4000.

Post Re: Performabuilt
I have a performabuilt tranny in the Avalanche right now...

I had an issue with the 2nd to 3rd shift within 1100 miles.
Called the 800 number and was not really impressed with the sales guy. He sits in Florida and does internet sales ( Frank). So I googled the company and got the local number and talked directly to the builder ( Rich) and he had the owner ( name escapes me at the moment). The owner asked for the truck to diagnose and admited to a couple issues within the last couple months but he said they found no clues because the clutches were gone and out of the vehicle when they get them.
They found what looked to be a filter issue restricting flow. He said the filter was actually sucked up in. This would also explain why the issues seemed to start when it was cold then got progressively worse.
They rebuilt it and I had my truck back within a week. So far it works great... Though I only have 500 or so miles on it.

I read the good and bad and bought from them because they were local enough I could go there and personally yell at them.

Rich Q. followed me to drop it off and he met the builder Rich. He seems like he knows what he is doing... But not a good public facing person which is probably why they have Frank.
For example I asked when I picked it up what the warranty was... his response was " Run the F#$k out of it for 3 years and if you break it bring it back... "

Oh yeah I also opted to save shipping and picked it up at the shop outside Hazelton...

Tom, I thought they offer free shipping? Although, Sugarloaf is not far at all. Would you recommend them? I wondered why Frank was so quick to respond when I asked him some questions awhile back. Makes sense!

I am still on the fence. Most shops would require a 4L60e core, but I am not looking for just a rebuild with stronger parts. My old LT1 is going opti-less and the tranny will need to be converted to OBDII. Performabuilt apparently does not need a core for the 60e's and that is a big seller for me. Most of the negative reviews I have read were in the 4x4/truck world where lots of weight and/or towing was involved.

Maybe I will bite the bullet and hope they build it right the first time.

I used these guys for the Trans am, as of 2 months ago the trans had about 31K on it behind my friends nitrous motor so I'd say they did a good job :)

My car has a Performabuilt 60e and made a bunch of low 11/high 10sec passes last year. It was in the car when I bought it, I'm not sure how old it is but i'm happy with it. It's the Level 2 and has a 4k Yank in front of it, which will hopefully in the near future be a higher stall

Yeah they do free shipping but they knocked money off the tranny for picking it up.
I would not be afraid to use them again... If they had not taken care of the issue it would have been a different story. I know things happen so I was just glad they excepted responsibilty and made it right.

To tell you the truth I would imagine if your going to have a failure in any tranny it will be in a 6,000lb truck with a blower. My tranny has got to hate that.

I think it's time for a 4L80/85e, Tom.

You all know Tom, nice guy to a fault.. When he started having issues with his trans, I told him the only way Performabilt would be doing him right is if they said "Drop off the truck, and we'll give it back when it's fixed" - and that's exactly what they did.

I'm glad the issue turned out to be a filter.. That bodes well for their build.

Having a local guy for big/PITA to ship parts has its advantages!
