Post BBC Info?
A friend of mine has a '66 C10 Pickup. Here's a pic:

Image

1972 402ci BBC, 8.5:1, 2 bolt main, rebuilt TH400 with a small stall and shift kit, Dana 44 w/3.73s, 750 street avenger, and I am sure I'm missing stuff. He's looking for a deal on heads or a heads/cam setup, but not really sure what to look for. I am not familiar with these either. So I offered to post up on here since some of you are...well...old :cheers and have a wealth of knowledge for all things automotive.

After a quick Google search, it sounds like the #820 castings work well on these. I think his goals are just a little more power and lope. The truck is a cruiser and it'll have a stock bottom end. Any good resources out there or opinions would be great.

Thanks!

Not sure of the casting # but if you can get a set of LS-6 heads (not 243 LSX heads!!!) they are supposed to be good. But best bet will be the aftermarket. I would guess that it is probably the LS-3 engine and not an L-34 or L-78

Unfortunately the small block has become so powerful and so much cheaper that BBC stuff is getting harder and harder to find.

Thanks for the info, Nick. It's a shame the KGC forum or I'd post up there as well. I really wish I knew more about the big block world, but a good resource I found was the Jalopy Journal forum (H.A.M.B.).

It is a sweet truck and runs and drives great. I believe it's tubbed a bit and the entire interior was just overhauled and painted up. Now it's time for some go fast parts.

Are Pro Comp heads junk like everyone says they are?

I looked into a set for my sbc when I was having the motor redone. I guess they're known for ports not lining up and valve failure. I ended up with a set of AFR 210 eliminator heads.

Go with AFR for max power, edelbrock and trick flow heads make a ton of torque. Brodix does nice BBC heads also.

Andy has some really good packages with brodix. Do not buy pro comps!!!
Afr's are good heads, edelbrock are OK at best.

For the $$ the brodix will prob give you the best bang for the buck. I think but don't quote me you can get a cnc'd camber, bowls and intake with good springs and brodix valves, pushrod guides and studs for around $1800.
