Post Impromptu NYS car cruise 8/9/15
Steve K dropped me a line and wants to do a day trip (a slightly long one) to come up and hit Route 97 and the southern Catskills. If anyone is interested in joining, post up! If my brakes show up the Hawk should be out and about and any extra hands to repair the inevitable break down will be appreciated... ;)

Best place to meet up is in Matamoras just prior to the NY border. There are lots of good places that are easy to find, Port Jervis is a bit nutty.

There are 2 good choices of ways to go, for a day trip I'd suggest #1, takes about 90 minutes to run the "cruise" portion and than another hour or so to highway back to Matamoras. Total time, about 3 hours

The other is considerably longer but has much better scenery, but not enthusiastic about it for a day trip, not if the plan is to drive to and from PA in the same day. It's about 3 hours of Cruise time and another 2 to get back tot he PA border on the interstate. Total time is about 5 hours

I'd be up for the first Route except once we hit Napanoch I'd head Southwest and take 209 straight home. Looks like it's mostly Interstate driving after that point anyways and would cut about 30 minutes from the total time.

Only thing with 209 is it a crap shoot on weekends if it will be moving, and if you get off there you won't get to do the mohonk mountian. Going South in the Afternoon on Sunday could be shady

Update (even though I know it will just be myself and Steve K):

Plan is to meet up in Matamoras around 1030-1100, cruise up 97 to Barryville and eat lunch at the Carriage house. Drive route 55 out to New Paltz (and run as many hassid's walking on the road into the dirt as possible) then jet down to the Woodbury outlets for debrief and cocktails, or at least some overpriced gadget shopping and buses full of Japanese tourists.

Was a perfect day for a cruise! The 'Hawk looks great Nick. Let me know if you need any help getting it detailed or restoring it.

I stopped off at the Erie Turntable in Port Jervis on the way back home. For a "historic" site it sure could use a good clean-up.
